Doing More Does Not Always Get You More Results

I do a lot of coaching calls every day with leaders around the globe.  The number one quest they are after is to reach new levels of productivity, profit, time management... basically they want a level of results they are not currently achieving.  In one of the blogs I follow online... Seth's blog, he recently stated the following:

Do more vs. do better

The easiest form of management is to encourage or demand that people do more. The other translation of this phrase is to go faster.

The most important and difficult form of management (verging on leadership) is to encourage people to do better.

Better is trickier than more because people have trouble visualizing themselves doing better. It requires education and coaching and patience to create a team of people who are better.

True it is more difficult to focus on "better", but it is almost always the cure.  Our society is "mega" guilty of busyness over productivity.  Most people believe what they are doing is not working based on how busy they are... in essence if they are busy and not getting results then they need to head in a new direction.  They feel defeated in their current endeavor and want to change to remove that depressing feeling of failure. 

Not always, but in most cases, the answer is refining what they are doing.  Stephen Covey would say that they need to "do RIGHT things, not just MORE things right".  If you are in that place of feeling tired of all the activity and see no results... you need to do a coaching call/conference with a leader who embraces finding out what the RIGHT things are for your particular profession/job and hold you accountable to those activities at a level of excellence instead of just adding more activity to your plate.
